Miguel Orozco Writer/Producer and Artistic Director.

Intro

I love stories. I love creating and telling them. Stories are what bring us joy and unite us. My passion, or as the great Octavia Butler described it, “positive obsession,” is to write and produce stories about communities that are often invisible. It would be an honor to share these stories with you and explore opportunities to tell these stories far and wide.

Work

The following projects span over ten years. Some have been completed, while others are being developed to one day launch. I have written, directed, and produced for film & theatre. I’m currently expanding my writing skills for Television.

My writing is dedicated to my dad, Alfonso Orozco from León, GTO, México, who gifted us with his love of life and stories.

BIO

Born and raised in East LA, Miguel’s family moved to Utah when he was a teen and he was forced to change his name from “Miguel” to “Mike”. The culture shock led to his passion for writing about issues surrounding identity and communities of color. Early in his professional life, Miguel started in Washington, DC as a U.S. Senate staffer. He co-founded Novelas Educativas, an educational film production company. He currently works in many forms of entertainment, from documentaries, film and television to theatre. In 2016, Miguel founded ÁNIMO Theatre Company to produce plays to increase cultural awareness of communities of color.

Miguel obtained a Master's degree in Public and International Affairs from the University of Pittsburgh and an MFA in Creative Writing from Mount Saint Mary's University.

Miguel is a Film Independent Episodic Lab Fellow and is co-developing the series EAST LOS ALIENS about a mixed-status family that adopts an “alien” after its spacecraft crashes in the heart of East LA.

The film A BETTER LIFE inspired Miguel’s feature MIXTECO KID which was selected by the NALIP’s Writers Lab, was a finalist for the 2022 Humanitas New Voices Fellowship, and was a quarter-finalist for the Academy Nicholl Fellowship. His pilot, LA CUARENTONA was selected as a Semi-Finalist for the Page International Awards.
